About

Our Story

In the fall of 2022, 23 fiber enthusiasts met to discuss the possibility of organizing a group of spinners and weavers. They lived in and around Weber, Davis, and Box Elder Counties of Utah.  Their goal was to establish a guild for the purpose of studying and exchanging ideas and knowledge about their crafts.  This was the beginning of Junction City Spinners and Weavers Guild. Since then our Guild has grown and includes new and experienced  practitioners of the fiber arts.

Junction City Spinners and Weavers Guild has established itself as a resource for the arts of spinning and weaving. The Guild offers classes and events year-round, serving new and experienced fiber artists each year.
The Junction City Spinners and Weavers Guild draws its name from Ogden, a city steeped in railroad history and known as “Junction City.” This title not only pays homage to our city’s significance but also symbolizes the convergence of fiber artists in our region. Our vision for the Junction City Spinners and Weavers Guild is to establish it as the central hub for Northern Utah’s vibrant community of fiber enthusiasts. It’s a place where individuals with a passion for fiber arts in all its forms can gather, collaborate, and support one another. Our guild serves as a space for learning, teaching, and introducing the rich world of fiber arts to our local community.

Our Mission

Junction City Spinners and Weavers Guild is a non-profit educational organization that promotes spinning, weaving, and fiber arts by supporting and encouraging the passion of its members through demonstrations, educational programs, and workshops.

As dedicated fiber enthusiasts, we welcome everyone interested in creating with fiber. Our members share in various activities within and outside the guild to promote interest in their skills and our organization. They volunteer their time and talent by serving on committees, working on guild projects, and participating in local events.

President Madison Goodsell

Hi I’m Madison! I am super excited to serve as President for the guild. A little about me: I started knitting when I was 8 years old and haven’t stopped! I picked up Portuguese knitting around 2020 and fell in love with how much easier knitting became to me. I love to spin and weave. My current interest is repairing old looms and wheels! I am from Salt Lake and moved up to Clearfield in 2022 with my now husband. It was the first time I lived in a different city than my family and I found myself wanting to find friends that lived closer to me. I have met so many wonderful people through the guild and have had countless fun experiences. I hope to help others connect and thrive through the guild!

Treasurer Tracy Phillips

Plain and simple, I love to knit! I can knit in the car, on the plane, at an appointment, and in the park. I knit almost every day and I’m kind of a monogamous knitter. I do have more than one project going, but once I start one, I usually work on it until its finished. Colorwork is my favorite and I really like to knit sweaters. I also love to share what I’ve learned by teaching classes at the Needlepoint Joint. I enjoy spinning on my Ladybug wheel (still trying to spin enough for a sweater!!), weaving, and needlepoint. I like to read too. But, it seems when given the choice…I always end up knitting. I love that we have a local guild so we can get together in person to share and learn from each other. Happy Knitting!

Membership Coordinator Samantha Shupe

Want to know a little about Sam? I grew up in Utah and live in Willard with my husband of 23 years and two kids. When I’m not working at my consulting job, you’ll usually find me tending my garden or surrounded by my ever-growing collection of houseplants. My kids and I love experimenting with new recipes—often while channeling our inner Gordon Ramsay. As for beverages, I’m equally happy with loose-leaf tea, coffee, wine, or whiskey.

My introduction to fiber arts began at age 10, when my aunt taught me to crochet—starting with chains. By her next visit, I had gone through multiple skeins of acrylic yarn making nothing but chains, which led her to teach me granny squares. As my interests grew, I learned to knit through YouTube and eventually fell in love with processing fiber, dyeing, and spinning. I once swore I’d never weave, but a few years ago I bought a loom, so now weaving has joined the list as well.

I genuinely enjoy guild meetings and have learned so much from other members. I deeply appreciate the guild’s mission to educate and promote fiber arts and am grateful for the shared knowledge and inspiration within this community.
